Well what can I say that I didn’t say already fellas, what a fantastic display of Rugby by the Finchley Under 7’s yesterday at the Grasshoppers festival.

It all started off badwith the normal weather we expect to see at this venue, albeit we didn’t get blown away this time. It was also a bit disjointed aswell as we were not sure who exactly was going to turn up and who wasn’t plus we had some new guys join who we were not familiar with. Well thank goodness they did.

We had a squad of 8 playing 3 matches in the pool - Well what an opening performance !

We drew the first two and won the third only to come out “top of the group” and the team to beat. I could see that the other teams were beginning to fear us as, we were unbeaten and gaining momentum as the day moved on.

Into the semis finals we went, we kept our composure, our smiles on our faces, but we knuckled down and stuck to the game plan which had worked for us all day (I cant reveal what that was as I don’t want to be giving away too many trade secrets) but again we were victorious and pushed aside yet another fearless but not quite good enough side to match up to the form we were in.

The final
We had arrived – there was a bit of giddiness (is that a word !) and a few nerves in the camp, we regained our composure yet again, put big smiles on and went out with that winning formula again and put the opposition through some serious lessons in how to defend, slip pass, side step and dummy around your opponent. After the first half it was all even and the half time talk revolved around getting water on board, and focusing on our tagging (there was a bit of bribing going on with Mars bars involved) this seemed to do the trick, the second half saw us tear through the opposition like there would be no Mars bars left in Brentford. There was a slight incident where the ball had been put down short of the line by our guys and we had a try disallowed. This didn’t bother us we were now like a rampaging pack of lions stalking their prey. By the time the final whistle had blown no one knew the score as it had been so exciting, the referee confirmed that we had in fact won 4-3 in the final and were grasshoppers U7’s champions 2010. What an achievement........

On a serious note

Thank you all for turning up and the parents for the support, it was a great day, we now have an established core squad in the Under 7’s that we can go on with and enjoy for the rest of the season with.
